Studying not only Russian and Ukrainian, but any language is quite individual. When choosing a method, one must carefully analyze and understand his/her purposes, as each goal corresponds to a different level of proficiency.

    The main methods:

  1. Classic. This method requires careful study and immersion in the linguistic space. During a study you’ll find answers to all questions. The main point is to have enough time (at least a few years), be patient and enduring. As a result, you’ll be able not only to understand speech, but also to create it.
  2. Intensive. This method provides you with the desired knowledge for a short time. It allows to learn basic expressions. After a few months, you’ll be able to understanding the interlocutor and speak to him in a simple Russian or Ukrainian. The basis of the method is absence of “surplus” grammatical rules: you study just the most necessary topics and phrases.
  3. Immersion. The method is somewhat sophisticated, as many people simply do not have such opportunity. The main point is listening, analyzing and memorizing. Constant observation is a unique way to formulate and express your thoughts. This way allows mastering Russian and Ukrainian, as well as expanding cultural experience. It takes only a few months living in the country to learn the basics of its language.
  4. Communicative. This method focuses on communication. Mistakes are not important there, as the most main thing is to overcome fear inside you and just talking. Learning through dialogue, without a doubt, is effective.
  5. Subconscious. The creators of this unique method ensure that only a few hours needed to significantly increase your vocabulary.
  6. Tutoring. It’s one of the most effective ways of a language studying. A teacher pay due attention to the most important aspects of a language. Furthermore, many teachers are coming up with their unique exciting method to make the process unobtrusive. For example, if you need to communicate well with Russian and Ukrainian business partners, the focus will be on business etiquette. And if the goal is to learn a language for travelling abroad, no one will be forced on technical reviews and memorizing unnecessary expressions. The term of studying depends on a teacher’s talent, as well as on a willingness of a student.
  7. Group classes. As a rule, lessons are not as boring as tutoring. Studying takes place in an informal, friendly atmosphere. The main disadvantage is that group sessions are often visited by people with different level of knowledge. Fixed time can also be a problem for a working person.
  8. Self-education. You need to purchase special literature or use this site.

The learning rate depends on personal perception and persistence.

How to achieve success in learning Russian (Ukrainian) languages

Before starting your the Russian (Ukrainian) language course, it is necessary to answer yourself only one question – “what for do I need it?” There could be different answers to this question: to get a new job, to go to a trip to Russia (Ukraine), for conversation with the friend. But if your answer sounds like: “just in case, for no particular reason” or “it is interesting”, you will not achieve any results . Surely, there has to be a strong motivation. The situation has to be critical, without Russian or Ukrainian you should be in real trouble. The answer “just in case” is not a motivation, and therefore, most likely, studying will be useless or will end quickly, without having managed to begin. It is necessary to realize that fact before you start to learn the language.

Define the field of application

The second factor which persons interested in learning the language has to clarify for themselves – is how to use this skill. If you want to communicate, it is better to attend language courses. There are usually groups, which are formed depending on the skills of students. It is better to communicate in group and not in private with the computer or the teacher. During the first lesson you will get the minimum of language material to carry the polylogue. Thus, knowing only some questions and answers, you will be able to form the conversation with the partners.

If you need a foreign language to read a literature or to write texts, it is sensible to have recourse to the teacher. When reading and writing, it is important to know not only the subtleties of grammar, but also stylistics. This task is difficult to complete without help.

Linguist – individualist

Let’s assume that you have a strong temper and ‘can-do’ approach. You are capable to learn language by your own. Well then, there are many ways of studying for such creative and active people. You want to get an intensive course of training – visit the country of the interested language. But go there alone, without friends and the translator. It would be some kind of shock therapy. In foreign country, you should eat something and sleep somewhere. You won’t speak – you will remain on the street hungry and tired. Moreover, police will take an interest in your personality. The most important phrases you’ll learn during the first hours in the country.

In a month you’ll learn to speak, using a necessary minimum of colloquial lexicon. You will have no other choice.

There are no means and opportunity to use a travel method – stay at home and use this site.

Where to start?

If you want to learn Russian or Ukrainian, start with the alphabet. If you know how to write a letter, you will be able to articulate it in the word and to understand the rules of pronunciation and reading.

Start to write the common phrases and words, pronouncing them aloud. Firstly, you learn to write. Secondly, learn lexicon. You could record your pronunciation on computer and compare it to the original. It will allow you to reach an ideal pronunciation.

Plane your studying process. Set aside 20 minutes a day for self-education. Your lessons should take place systematically; oversize studying of the language will remain just a process with a zero result.

It is a must to compare the phrases you form in Russian (Ukrainian) to the native. It will help you to understand how the person thinks, the native speaker, and will teach you to think the same way.

Read the texts in Russian (Ukrainian). Most certainly you’ll meet unknown words in them. It is necessary to learn new lexicology: not just translation, but also pronunciation, and grammar of the words. After you coped with the new word, try to form the phrase using it on the familiar basis. Thus, you will increase your word-stock. Learning more words, try to choose larger texts to find even more unknown words.

Studying of language will be incomplete if you don’t start talking. Find a partner via Internet, adjust the corresponding video program and try at least to greet each other. It alone will mean success. Your language barrier is overcome.

It is difficult, still possible to learn Russian (Ukrainian) language independently. You should just choose the training method, read reference books, study new words, find the interlocutor, make a schedule for yourself and be study every day. That is all there is to it.
